Broadway Stories - GSAPP Core I Fall 2018
critic: Christoph Kumpusch, Forward Slash (/)
Taking Broadway and its surrounding buildings as an area of study, the proposal is to intervene with a series of folds at multiple scales and materials. The fragments generate nooks of privacy and tactile qualities to the spaces along Broadway in Lower Manhattan.
After a close study of the film Der Lauf Der Dinge by Peter Fischli and David Weiss, the concept of fragmentation was implemented in analyzing the film. The drawings analyze “cinematic time” vs. “real time” in an attempt to study how time is perceived while watching the film.
Moving image proposes fragment folds and movements that generate a spectrum of qualitative characteristics for space.
