Scales of Environment - GSAPP ADV IV Spring 2020
critic: Lindy Roy, Roy Studio
A gradient of blues is the result of a series of water fragments and buoyant infrastructure enhancing the human experience of retreat. The proposal is to introduce a water ecosystem that generates a range of physical, chemical, and biological compositions of water to create a spectrum of blueness in the Tomkins Cove Quarry. The site is a man-made landscape that results from mining limestone since the 1800’s.
The proposal introduces different conditions that allow users to cultivate algae in two of the pools, bathe in a high salinity pool that is similar to the Dead Sea, experience purification in alkaline water or a detox experience in a slightly acidic pool. Varying buoyancy, turbidity and color are also part of the human experience.
